Hippo Card



Hippo Card-JMRush
Approximate Size: W 4.25” X H 4.50”

  1. Cut design pieces. I used double sided card stock.
  2. Glue the full Hippo Head silhouette with an eye/ear/nose holes to the larger solid coordinating Hippo Head silhouette. Fold the card base at the score lines. ( I have the card base upside down in this tutorial - the teeth should be on the top of the card)
  3. Use a foam adhesive squares to attach the oval nose/muzzle piece to the combined Hippo Head.
  4. Use a foam adhesive squares to attach the combined Hippo Head to the front of the card base (with teeth). Glue the ears of the combined Hippo Head to the card base. I finished with adhesive enamel dots to accentuate the eyes and a ribbon:)

Hippo Open Mouth Treat Box

Approximate box size: W 2.5” x D 1 x H 4” (W 4” x H 4.50” with Hippo Head)

This box opens by lifting the character’s head to to expose the opening to the treat box. This simple to construct design would be perfect to hold your goodies for Valentine’s Day or Birthday party favors. This design is compatible with both 8X12 and 12X12 mats.

  1. The Box- Cut the box base design. ( I used double sided Grey cardstock for the Hippo) 
  2. Fold score lines.
  3. Apply glue to the two small vertical side tabs at the bottom of the box base.
  4. Secure the two small vertical side tabs to the 1 inch (width) rectangles just above them.
  5. Apply glue to the very right corner of the horizontal tab just below the two side tabs that you just glued. ( My finger is pointing to the section in the photo:) Secure this corner to the vertical tab to the right.
  6. Apply glue to the topside of the same vertical tab and secure the final panel creating a complete box.
  7. - 9.The tab fits into the slot to close.

The Hippo-
1.Cut design pieces. (I used double sided cardstock)
2. Glue the open oval teeth piece to long mouth base base. Glue the hippo head with teeth to the hippo head solid piece.
3. Glue the toothless Hippo head to the combined head. Use foam adhesive squares to attach the teeth in their matching spaces.
4. Fold the score lines on the long mouth base. Glue the combined hippo head to the top of the long mouth base.
5.Glue the bottom of the mouth/hippo head combined piece to the box centering it around the oval cut out. I placed the slotted opening of the box at the top of the hippo’s head.

6. Finish with adhesive enamel dots to accent her eyes and a hair bow. Fill with goodies:)

Hippo Snack Bag Topper

This snack bag topper features character arms and head that fold over a resealable plastic bag. This design is perfect for Valentine’s Day or birthday parties. This design is compatible with both 8X12 and 12X12 mats.

1.Cut design pieces. (I used double sided cardstock for the topper base).
2. Fold the score lines. Glue the hippo face with teeth to the solid hippo face base. Using foam adhesive squares, attach the smaller heart to the larger one. 
3. Glue the hippo face without teeth to the combined hippo face. Using foam adhesive squares, attach the nose to the combined face and then the combined hippo face to the topper base. Glue the combined hearts to the monkey’s tummy.
4. Using a foam adhesive square, attach the tail to the hippo’s backside.
5. Apply hot glue to the inside of the topper base just underneath the score lines, where the arms fold over. (You want to make sure that the arms can still fold down.) 
6.  Center and secure your open resealable plastic bag to the hot glue line. Make sure that only one side of the plastic bag is glued down so that you can still open it. I used a snack sized plastic bag (W 6.5” x H 4.25”) Fill with treats. I finished the hippo with enamel adhesive dots to accent the eyes and ribbon:)

Hippo Hug Treat Box

This treat box features character arms that open to a small treat box. This design is perfect for Valentine’s Day or birthday parties. This design is compatible with both 8X12 and 12X12 mats.

1.Cut design pieces. (I used double sided cardstock for the card base).
2. Fold the box base along score lines. It is not necessary to fold the score lines closest to the tip of each hoof.
3. Apply glue to the two top tabs and secure them to the top (head) panel.
4. Apply glue to the bottom two tabs and secure them to the bottom panel creating a box.
5. Glue the hippo face with the teeth to the solid hippo face base.
6. Glue the third hippo face on top of the combined puppy face piece. Using foam adhesive squares, attach the the muzzle piece to the combined face.
7. Using foam adhesive squares, attach the completed head to the front to the box.  Apply glue to the bottom of the bottom section of the narrow strip. Attach to the back of the box.
8.-9. The paws tuck into the slots on the narrow strip in the center. Attach a foam adhesive square in the center of this strip and secure the heart into place. Using foam adhesive squares, attach the the tail on the back. I finished the hippo with enamel adhesive dots to accent the eyes and a hair bow:)
